“Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me
and I understand.” – Chinese proverb
The Kindergarten students in Mrs. Kliger’s and Mrs. Vaid’s
class have opened up their first ever Pizzeria. In Mrs. Rozen’s and Miss
Fuentes’ class the students have been actively engaged in creating designs and
patterns at the light table. The Kindergarten program is one in which our
educators in the classroom help our students learn through play and inquiry.
Studies have shown that through play, a child’s social, emotional and
intellectual skills are developed. Through real-life contexts such as the
pizzeria and exploration at the light table, students are learning many things.
During play, students are actively communicating, expanding their oral and
written language proficiency, developing number sense and developing creativity
through art. Through the discoveries they make, their curiosity is peaked which
creates an excitement for learning. It is evident there is a lot of excitement
and learning in the kindergarten classes!
